Husker Title Hopes Vanish Into Thin Air
BOULDER (BS) -- For the first time in the history of the Cornerstone BS Poll, Nebraska was unable to claim the #1 ranking.
In a display of surrealism that would make Salvador Dali proud, the Huskers (11-1) used a new "prevent nothing" defense to hand Colorado a Nintendo-esque 62-36 victory.
Despite embarrassing losses to Fresno State and Texas, the Buffalo stampede was at full strength in piling up 582 total yards against the Blackshirts. In fact, their 42-point outburst in the first half and 62 total points were both the highest in NU history.
The win elevated Colorado to #1, solidifying their status as a legitimate BS contender. Thanks to merciful fan and computer rankings, Nebraska slipped only to #2, leaving their shrunken window of opportunity ever-so-slightly ajar. (Thanks Oklahoma.)
Miami (10-0) edged Washington 65-7 to claim the #3 ranking. Idle Florida (9-1) moved up two spots to #4 and Texas (10-1) defeated Texas A&M 21-7 to remain #5.
Rounding out the Top 10 is sixth-ranked Oregon (9-1), Tennessee (9-1), Maryland (10-1), Illinois (10-1) and Oklahoma (10-2).
