Huskers get their cake and eat it, too: NU's Eric Crouch ran away with the Heisman. |

B-C-Mess = Roses Are Red = Controversy2
LINCOLN (BS) -- Despite a momentary fall to #2 in the Cornerstone BS Poll, the Huskers rebounded famously over the weekend. On Saturday, QB Eric Crouch won the Heisman Trophy. On Sunday, Nebraska narrowly edged Colorado and Oregon for the right to play Miami in the Rose Bowl.
The Huskers will send Hickory Farms gift packs to several teams, including: Oklahoma, Florida, Texas, and Tennessee. Given the nature of events, they will likely send The Gold Miner, a holiday classic.
The Big Red should also consider sending one to TCU, their first opponent. If it weren't for a 14-12 TCU upset over Southern Miss on Friday, the Huskers wouldn't have gained the critical schedule strength points to withstand a late charge by the Buffaloes.
Resembling its much-ballyhooed foe, the Cornerstone BS Poll experienced a similar computer controversy over the last two weeks. After Nebraska fell from #1 for the first time in the two-year history of the poll, a corncob was found jammed in the BS Poll disk drive.
Since the cob was extracted, the resilient Huskers (11-1) have enjoyed a quick return to #1. For finishing as the only undefeated team, Miami (11-0) climbed to #2. The Buffs (10-2) slipped to #3 as Coach Barnett's bitter plea fell on deaf ears.
Equally unhappy Oregon (10-1) climbed to #4 and will meet the Buffs in the Fiesta Bowl. ACC champ Maryland (10-1) finished #5 and will play Florida in the Orange Bowl.
Rounding out the BS Top 10 is sixth-ranked Illinois (10-1), Oklahoma (10-2), Texas (10-2) LSU (9-3) and Tennessee (10-2).
