NU In With LSU Win
LINCOLN (BS) -- Despite falling from #1 in the Cornerstone BS Poll and failing to win even their division of the Big XII, Nebraska is one LSU win away from the Rose Bowl.
Somehow, someway, improbable losses by Oklahoma, Florida and Texas have propelled the Huskers back into the national title race a mere ten days after their loss to Colorado.
Of course, nothing is "official" until the BCS says so, but Oregon and Colorado appear too far behind to close the gap. Is that fair? Probably not, but who said the BCS was fair? Just ask '99 Nebraska and '00 Miami.
For beating Texas and getting shut out of the BCS, Colorado (10-2) remained #1 in this week's Cornerstone BS Poll. Idle Nebraska (11-1) didn't climb, but their #2 ranking now carries much more significance.
#3 Miami (11-0) edged Virginia Tech 26-24 to finish undefeated. Tennessee (10-1) jumped to #4 after upsetting Florida 34-32 in The Swamp, and Oregon (10-1) beat in-state rival Oregon State 17-14 to claim the #5 spot.
Rounding out the BS Top 10 is sixth-ranked Maryland (10-1), Illinois (10-1), BYU (12-0), Oklahoma (10-2) and Texas (10-2).
