Crouch, #1 Huskers Go the Distance
LINCOLN (BS) - After a slow start in their first road game of the season, Nebraska rolled to victory and retained the top position in this week's Cornerstone BS Poll.
The Huskers (5-0) defeated Missouri 36-3 on the strength of Eric Crouch's 120 yards passing and school quarterback-record 191 yards rushing on 17 carries.
With Nebraska leading 16-3 and backed up near their own goal line, Crouch faded to pass, spun away from a tackler, juked two defenders at the 20 and then won a 95-yard sprint to the end zone for the longest run in NU history.
Iowa State, Nebraska's next opponent, came out of nowhere to claim the #2 spot following their 41-0 win over Baylor. The ranking sets the stage for another #1 vs. #2 battle in Lincoln this Saturday.
Oklahoma, a 38-37 winner over Kansas State, remains in third place. Miami, the number one team in the AP and coaches' polls, is a solid fourth. Texas, another Big XII foe, quietly climbed to 5th.
Rounding out the BS Poll Top 10 is Florida, Baylor, UCLA, Kansas State, and Texas Tech.
