Late Trick = Early Treat
LINCOLN (BS) -- Despite being a few days early for Halloween, Nebraska relied on a nifty trick late in the game to halt Oklahoma's 20-game winning streak.
In a defensive battle, the Huskers avenged last year's loss to OU with an epic 20-10 win. However, the outcome was still in question until a rare play call in the fourth quarter.
Known as "Black 41 Flash Reverse" in the NU playbook, it called for a quick pitch to Thunder Collins, who flipped the ball to wingback Mike Stuntz (a QB recruit) on a reverse. Stuntz then found Crouch open down the left sideline, who raced untouched to the end zone.
At the end of the first half, Oklahoma had tried the same play but failed to convert when QB Nate Hybl lost his footing. The Sooners had to settle for a field goal and 10-10 tie at halftime.
With the win, it's likely that Nebraska will likely move to #1 in the "official" BCS standings. The Cornerstone BS Poll, on the other hand, has ranked the Huskers (9-0) #1 all season.
Following their 40-6 loss to Kansas State, Kansas (2-5) made an improbable jump to claim the #2 spot. The Jayhawks will host the #1 Huskers in Lawrence this Saturday.
Miami (6-0) defeated West Virginia 45-3 to move to #3. Oklahoma (7-1) fell to #4 after the loss, and Florida (6-1) returned to the Top 5 with their 24-10 win over Georgia.
Rounding out the Top 10 is sixth-ranked Texas (7-1), BYU (8-0), Oregon (7-1), Michigan (6-1) and Kansas State (3-4).
