Huskers To Host Rice
LINCOLN (BS) - #1 Nebraska will host the #2 Rice Owls this Thursday (7:30 p.m. CST) in a matchup of the top two teams in the Cornerstone BS Poll. The game also spells a return to competition following NCAA-wide postponements in the wake of last week's national tragedies.
The game is the first ever matchup of the two schools, and an early battle of the unbeatens. Previously, Nebraska (3-0) defeated then-#2 Notre Dame 27-10 on national television, and Rice (2-0) quietly crushed Duke 15-13.
Nebraska has been ranked #1 all season on the strength of the fan poll, computer and mascot/uniform components of the poll. Interestingly, each of the Huskers' four opponents have been ranked #2 at game time, a major boost to their strength of schedule.
"To have four consecutive games versus the #2 team is an awfully tough way to start the season," coach Frank Solich said, "but we're glad to have so many opportunities to justify our ranking. We'll prepare for Rice as if it's a game against any other #2 team."
