NU Topples Troy State; Which Beat Marshall; Who Beat Kansas State

LINCOLN (BS) -- For the first time this season, the NU defense didn't allow a point as Nebraska pounded Troy State 30-0. The win justified the Huskers' #3 ranking in this week's BS Poll.

The Blackshirts, already ranked #1 in the country, were extra stingy in allowing a season-low 150 yards of total offense.

Had it not been for turnovers, Troy State may not have crossed the 50-yard line. They were simply overmatched against an aggressive and determined defense that may actually be improving.

The Husker offense, however, turned in a workmanlike effort that has become their signature. Despite several opportunities in the first half, they led 10-0 at halftime thanks to a late touchdown.

In other words: the defense dominated and the offense merely sufficed. That sounds eerily familiar.

The Huskers will face a tougher test as they travel to Columbia this week to face Brad Smith and the Missouri Tigers.

Although Missouri hasn't lived up to their preseason hype, it's only the second road game for NU, and the first among several against Big XII competition.

Not to mention, Missouri (4-1) is rated #10 in this week's BS Poll rankings.

Rounding out the BS Top 10 is Oklahoma (5-0), Miami (5-0), Virginia Tech (5-0), Florida State (5-0), Arkansas (4-0), those lovable Big 10 scamps Minnesota (6-0), Ohio State (5-0) and LSU (5-0).
